Temporary Changes to Cafeteria Services at Health Sciences Centre

May 11, 2023: Newfoundland and Labrador Health Services advises the public of temporary changes to cafeteria services at the Health Sciences Centre due to a broken water pipe in the kitchen area of the cafeteria. As a result, retail food offerings at the Health Sciences Centre will be temporarily limited. Hospital inpatient food services are not affected.

Change in Ambulance Service Provider for Whitbourne Area

March 2, 2023 – St. John’s, NL: Eastern Health advises that there has been a change to the provision of ambulance services in the Whitbourne area. Eastern Health is ensuring the continuation of emergency and routine ambulance service coverage to the region and there are no changes to service levels.

Temporary Protocols to Call for an Ambulance on Bell Island During Planned Telephone Disruption

February 27, 2023 – St. John’s, NL: Eastern Health advises residents of Bell Island of updated protocols to call for an ambulance during a planned telephone disruption while the service provider completes work. The service provider has advised that work is currently planned to take place tomorrow, Tuesday, February 28, 2023, beginning at 7:00 a.m. and lasting for several hours.

During this planned telephone disruption, residents of Bell Island with a medical emergency who require an ambulance are advised of the following protocols:

  • Cell Phone: If you have a cell phone, please continue to call 911 for an ambulance.
  • Landline: If you have a landline, please call the Dr. Walter Templeman Health Care Centre at 709-488-2761 for an ambulance.

December 27, 2022 – St. John’s, NL: Eastern Health advises the public that visitation is temporarily restricted at U.S. Memorial Health Centre in St. Lawrence due to cases of COVID-19 among residents.

Patients with Emergency Medical Needs Only Advised to Proceed to Emergency Departments in St. John’s

September 10, 2022 – St. John’s, NL: Emergency rooms at the Health Sciences Centre and St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital in St. John’s are experiencing unprecedented pressures resulting in long wait times for patients. Eastern Health reminds individuals who are not experiencing a medical emergency to consider alternate options before proceeding to an emergency department.

This approach will help to alleviate long wait times by patients and also helps staff to focus on the delivery of safe and quality care for individuals who present with critical medical conditions, including those who experience serious injuries, heart attacks, strokes and difficulty breathing. Walk-in COVID-19 Booster Clinics This Weekend in St. John’s for Those 30 Plus

January 7, 2022 – St. John’s, NL: Eastern Health advises that there will be a walk-in COVID-19 booster clinic this weekend, Saturday, January 8 and Sunday, January 9, 2022 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Waterford Valley High School in St. John’s. These clinics will also provide curb-side vaccines for anyone who may have mobility requirements. December 31, 2021 – St. John’s, NL: Eastern Health advises the public of temporary changes to services, effective January 4, 2022. Eastern Health will focus on urgent and emergent acute services at health-care sites within the city, including the Health Sciences Centre, St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital, and the Dr. L.A. Miller Centre. Earlier Appointments Now Available at COVID-19 Clinics

July 15, 2021 – St. John’s, NL:  Eastern Health advises the public that it is now offering earlier appointments for COVID-19 second dose vaccines to individuals 12 years of age and older. Starting today, those who are due for their second dose will be able to move their appointment to 28 days after their first dose.
