Visitor Restrictions in Place following Contained Fire at Waterford Hospital

May 28, 2022 – St. John’s, NL: Eastern Health advises the public that temporary visitor restrictions are in place at the Waterford Hospital, following a fire that occurred on Saturday, May 28, 2022 at approximately 5:00 p.m. Eastern Health confirms that the fire, which occurred on one of the inpatient units at the Waterford Hospital, has been contained.

At this time, the public is asked not to visit the facility and an update will be provided when visitation can safely resume.

Police and the fire department arrived on the scene shortly after the fire started. All patients are safe and there are no reported injuries as a result of this incident. Patients from the affected unit are being transferred to other units at the facility, as needed, and staff are contacting next-of-kin.

Eastern Health is continuing to assess the situation and will provide an update on outpatient services and appointments tomorrow, Sunday, May 29, 2022.

Eastern Health has emergency plans in place and would like to thank all first responders who responded and staff for their assistance.
