September 27, 2021 – St. John’s, NL: Eastern Health invites non-profit and community-based groups to apply for funding under its 2021 Healthy Communities Partnership Fund. The fund, valued at $50,000 annually, was established in 2007 by Eastern Health’s Board of Trustees to support local community groups and organizations by funding projects that foster healthy communities.
“We are pleased to announce the Healthy Communities Partnership Fund for 2021,” said Leslie O’Reilly, Chair of the Board of Trustees. “Non-profit and community-based groups are integral partners as we work to support our communities. We look forward to funding these groups so they can continue to promote health and wellness initiatives that improve the lives of those in our communities.”
Eastern Health will provide up to $10,000 per project to non-profit community-based groups and organizations and their partner(s). Priority will be given to groups that contribute to a healthier community by:
- strengthening social support networks;
- developing community connections and partnerships;
- addressing a health and wellness need in their community;
- creating supportive environments; and/or
- strengthening community action.
As part of the application process, healthy communities consultants will work directly with local community groups and organizations to discuss their needs and ideas.
“2020 was a year that saw individuals and groups pull together in innovative new ways to support each other, and their communities,” said Judy O’Keefe, Vice President responsible for Population and Public Health with Eastern Health. “We are eager to partner with these dedicated organizations and help forge creative solutions that inspire positive change.”
Since the first grants were awarded in 2008, over $500,000 has been invested in 73 community groups and organizations across the Eastern Health region. These projects address both physical and mental health needs for all age groups; from infants to, seniors, and assist in creating supportive environments for citizens to flourish.
