Regional Health Authorities Following Up with Mammography Patients

October 21, 2022 – St. John’s, NL: Three regional health authorities (Eastern Health, Labrador-Grenfell Health and Western Health) advised today that the review of mammography images read on 3-megapixel monitors instead of 5-megapixel monitors is now completed and follow-up with patients who required further assessment is ongoing.

Of 10,883 patients who had their mammogram images reviewed, 10,845 patients have been reviewed with no change. Of the 38 patients who require further assessment, 20 of these patients have had their follow up complete with no change to their reports. The other 18 patients are in various stages of follow-up which includes the following steps:

  • contacted patients’ primary health-care providers;
  • contacted patients by phone;
  • contacted patients with a follow-up letter outlining next steps.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (Collaborative) Program Receives Highest Accreditation and Approval Awards

October 21, 2022 – St. John’s, NL: Eastern Health announced today that the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) (Collaborative) Program, offered by the Centre for Nursing Studies, has received seven-year approval status from the College of Registered Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador (CRNNL) with a score of 100 per cent. The Centre for Nursing Studies (CNS) has also received a seven-year accreditation status from the Canadian Association of Schools of Nursing (CASN) in July of this year.

“These outstanding accreditation and approval outcomes affirm the high quality of nursing education offered in this province,” said Debbie Walsh, Vice President of Clinical Services & Chief Nursing Officer with the Centre for Nursing Studies. “Congratulations to faculty, staff, students and all those involved on this incredible achievement. October 14, 2022 – St. John’s, NL: Eastern Health advises that influenza (flu) vaccination clinics will begin to roll throughout the region starting Monday, October 17, 2022. Flu vaccination clinics are available by appointment only.

Regional Health Authorities Complete Review of Mammography Images

October 13, 2022 – St. John’s, NL: Three regional health authorities (Eastern Health, Labrador-Grenfell Health and Western Health) advised today that the review of mammography images read on 3-megapixel monitors instead of 5-megapixel monitors is near completion. On August 23, 2022, the three regional health authorities initiated this review and are continuing to take all the required steps to gather information including conducting a multi-RHA internal quality review, which will be completed in a timely and thorough manner.

The below table outlines the number of patients who have had their mammograms reviewed requiring no change, as of Wednesday, October 12, 2022. Of 10,883 patients, 10,845 patients have been reviewed with no change, with 38 patients who require further assessment. The percentage of patients requiring follow-up remains stable at 0.3 per cent. Eastern Health Expands Hours of Operation for Community Walk-In Clinic in St. John’s

October 11, 2022 – St. John’s, NL:  Eastern Health advises the public that it is expanding the hours of its community walk-in clinic at 50 Mundy Pond Rd, St. John’s, starting on Wednesday, October 12, 2022. The clinic is open to individuals in the metro area who do not have a family health-care provider.

The clinic will be open Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. 8:00 p.m., and Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with the possibility of expanded hours based on community need. The clinic is walk-in only at this time with a limited number of appointments that will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

October 6, 2022 – St. John’s, NL: Three regional health authorities (Eastern Health, Labrador-Grenfell Health and Western Health) are providing an update on the ongoing mammography review for patients. To date, approximately 93 per cent of patients have had their mammography reviews completed.

The below table outlines the number of patients who have had their mammograms reviewed requiring no change, as of Wednesday, October 5, 2022. Of 10,883 patients, 10,084 patients have been reviewed with no change, with 33 patients who require further assessment. The percentage of patients requiring follow-up remains stable at 0.3 per cent.
