February 27, 2023 – St. John’s, NL: Eastern Health advises residents of Bell Island of updated protocols to call for an ambulance during a planned telephone disruption while the service provider completes work. The service provider has advised that work is currently planned to take place tomorrow, Tuesday, February 28, 2023, beginning at 7:00 a.m. and lasting for several hours.

During this planned telephone disruption, residents of Bell Island with a medical emergency who require an ambulance are advised of the following protocols:

  • Cell Phone: If you have a cell phone, please continue to call 911 for an ambulance.
  • Landline: If you have a landline, please call the Dr. Walter Templeman Health Care Centre at 709-488-2761 for an ambulance.

Temporary Closure of Emergency Services at U.S. Memorial Health Centre 

February 24, 2023 – St. John’s, NL: Eastern Health advises the public that emergency services at U.S. Memorial Health Centre in St. Lawrence will be temporarily closed due to human resource challenges. The temporary closure will take place from:

 Monday, February 27, 2023 at 8:00 a.m. to Monday, March 13, 2023 at 8:00 a.m.

While emergency services are closed, primary health care (i.e. family practice clinic appointments) will still be available. To make an appointment for the family practice clinic (including evening virtual appointments), outpatient laboratory services and ambulatory treatment services, individuals may call 709-873-2330.

Patients requiring emergency services during the closures should call 911 or proceed to the Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre or the Dr. S. New Cardiovascular and Stroke Institute Announced for Newfoundland and Labrador

February 23, 2023 – St. John’s, NL: The Honourable Dr. Andrew Furey, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, today announced that plans are underway for the construction of a new Cardiovascular and Stroke Institute that will be located at the Health Sciences Centre site in St. John’s.

The new facility, aimed at the prevention and management of cardiac and cerebrovascular disease, which includes what we commonly understand as strokes, will allow for enhanced cardiac, vascular, and stroke services and other clinical services. It will create a modern working environment, and will increase the number of operating rooms and inpatient beds at the Health Sciences Centre. Update on Eastern Health Services During Adverse Weather

February 15, 2023 – St. John’s, NL: Eastern Health advises the public of the following update to its services today due to adverse weather conditions:

  • Breastfeeding support groups are cancelled at the following locations:
    • Goulds Family Resource Centre (2:00 – 3:30 p.m.)
    • Bay Bulls Community Health Office (1:00 – 2:30 p.m.)
      These groups will resume as scheduled next week. Please reach out to your Public Health nurse directly, if needed.
  • The breastfeeding support group at Heart’s Delight Town Hall (1:30 – 2:30 p.m.) is proceeding.
  • The community walk-in clinic, located at 50 Mundy Pond Rd, St. John’s, will reopen at 12:00 p.m.
  • The blood collection booking office/phone line is closed today and will reopen tomorrow. Appointments can also be made online at https://www.easternhealth.ca/find-health-care/blood-collection/. Blood collection sites are open and appointments are proceeding.

Province’s Fourth Breast Screening Site Opens at Labrador Health Centre

February 2, 2023 – Happy-Valley-Goose Bay, NL: Labrador Grenfell-Health and Eastern Health officially opened a satellite breast screening centre located at the Labrador Health Centre in Happy Valley-Goose Bay today, as part of the Provincial Breast Screening Program.
