Temporary Disruption in Service at U.S. Memorial Health Centre

December 16, 2021 – St. John’s, NL:  Eastern Health advises the public of an overnight closure of the Emergency Department at the U.S. Memorial Health Centre in St. Lawrence from 7:30 p.m. this evening (Thursday, December 16, 2021) to 7:30 a.m. tomorrow (Friday, December 17, 2021), due to a temporary staffing shortage.

Patients requiring emergency services should call 911 or proceed to the Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre, or the Dr. S. Beckley Clinic in Grand Bank if they feel they have a serious or urgent medical problem.

Some examples of serious or urgent medical problems include but are not limited to:

  • Chest pain
  • Breathing problems
  • Stroke or stroke-like symptoms
  • Sexual assault
  • Large cut or wound
  • Injury to a joint or limb with loss of use, swelling and severe pain
  • Serious burns, inhalation of smoke or other poisonous fumes
  • Severe allergic reactions
  • Poisoning or drug/alcohol overdose
  • Suicidal thoughts
