June 9, 2022 – St. John’s, NL: Eastern Health advises the public that the Emergency Department at the Dr. William H. Newhook Community Health Centre in Whitbourne will be temporarily diverted tomorrow, Friday, June 10, 2022, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Patients in the area who require emergency services are advised to go to the nearest open emergency department in Carbonear, Placentia or St. John’s, or to call 911 for assistance.
Family practice clinics, outpatient services, including laboratory services and X-ray services, and ambulatory treatment services such as chemotherapy continue to be available, by appointment, at the community health centre in Whitbourne.
If you are unsure whether you or a loved one should go to the Emergency Department, please call the NL Health Line at 811 to speak with a registered nurse 24 hours, seven days a week. The HealthLine also has a nurse practitioner (NP) virtual care service that can prevent unnecessary emergency room visits for non-emergent issues. Appointments with NPs over the phone or by video are available everyday 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., including weekends. Please note that, depending on appointment availability, it could take up to three days to see the 811 NP.
If you are experiencing a mental health crisis, please call 811 or 709-737-4668 or toll-free 1-888-737-4668.
We apologize for this disruption in service and thank the public for their understanding. We continue to focus on providing safe and quality care and recruitment efforts are ongoing.
