June 17, 2022 – St. John’s, NL: Eastern Health advises that it is extending its online appointment-based system for outpatient blood collection to include the Waterford Hospital in St. John’s. Patients/clients of the Waterford Hospital, as well as St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital and the Major’s Path Clinic, are able to view, select and book an available time for their appointment directly on the Eastern Health website.
Patients/clients can access online bookings for the Waterford Hospital, St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital and Major’s Path at https://www.easternhealth.ca/find-health-care/blood-collection/. Family members of patients/clients may book appointments online if patients/clients are unable to do so. For those who are unable to book an appointment online, they may still schedule an appointment by calling 709-777-6933.
To reduce unnecessary risks to patients during the COVID-19 pandemic, blood collection activities at all sites will include the following:
- An appointment for blood collection is required as walk-in service is not available.
- Patients/clients may call ahead to make an appointment at all blood collection locations. Phone numbers can be found on the blood collection website.
- Appointments can also be scheduled by a physician.
Patients should arrive at designated appointment times to facilitate physical distancing at the clinics. Patients are directed to perform hand hygiene, wear a well-fitted medical mask and will be screened for symptoms of COVID-19 at registration.
This initiative was first piloted at the Major’s Path location in 2020 under Eastern Health’s Innovation Strategy in partnership with the Newfoundland and Labrador Centre for Health Information (NLCHI) and Eastern Health’s innovation partner, Mobia, using the Swiftqueue online booking platform. The online appointment-based system for outpatient blood collection was expanded to include St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital in April 2022.
