Individuals 50 Years and Over Now Eligible for Second Booster of COVID-19 Vaccine

July 19, 2022 – St. John’s, NL: Eastern Health advises the public that individuals 50 years and over are now eligible to book appointments for a second booster dose of COVID-19 vaccine.

Individuals may book appointments at clinics throughout the Eastern Health region by visiting www.gov.nl.ca/covid-19/vaccine/gettheshot/. For some vaccination clinics, appointments may be currently booked to capacity based on initial high demand. Appointments will continue to be added to the online booking system regularly and individuals are advised to continue to check availability.

Individuals may also book a COVID-19 vaccine at a participating pharmacy or physician’s office.

The second booster dose should be administered at a minimum of 20 weeks after the first booster dose was administered. Those eligible for the second booster are:

  • Adults 50 years of age and over;
  • All residents living in long-term care or other senior congregate living facilities; and
  • Individuals 18 years of age and older that identify as Indigenous or live in remote/isolated communities.

The public is reminded that they should not schedule an appointment for a vaccine if they are a close contact of a case and are isolating or if they are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19. If they are experiencing symptoms, they should complete a COVID-19 Assessment by clickinghere.

Significant efforts have been made to ensure that public health measures are in place for the protection of those receiving their vaccines as well as for health-care staff. Individuals are required to self-screen for COVID-19 symptoms at the entrance, be required to wear a mask, and observe good infection prevention and control practices.
