December 6, 2022 – St. John’s, NL: Eastern Health advises the public that it is dedicating a number of appointments at the community walk-in clinic at 50 Mundy Pond Rd, St. John’s, specifically for children in response to the increase in pediatric respiratory illness.
Any children who are assessed at the walk-in clinic as having symptoms of respiratory illness will be treated on a priority basis. Eastern Health will monitor community need daily and every effort will be made to accommodate patients who present to the clinic, although appointment numbers will be limited based on the number of available providers.
Concerned parents are encouraged to bring children with mild respiratory illness to the walk-in clinic rather than the emergency department at the Janeway Children’s Health and Rehabilitation Centre. Any children needing a higher level of care or monitoring will be referred to the Janeway. The walk-in clinic is open to patients from 8:30 a.m. to 7:15 p.m. and parents are encouraged to present after 8:30 a.m. to avoid potential line-ups earlier in the day.
If you are unsure whether a loved one should go to the emergency department, call the NL Health Line at 811 to speak with a registered nurse 24 hours, seven days a week. Patients with a medical emergency who require an ambulance should continue to call 911.
Eastern Health reminds the public of the importance of keeping up to date with influenza and COVID-19 vaccinations; staying at home when sick; and other preventative health measures such as handwashing and masking.
