Temporary Closure of Emergency Services at U.S. Memorial Health Centre

January 13, 2023 – St. John’s, NL: Eastern Health advises the public that emergency services at U.S. Memorial Health Centre in St. Lawrence will be temporarily closed due to current human resource challenges. The temporary closure will take place from:

Monday, January 16, 2023 at 8:00 a.m. to Monday, January 23, 2023 at 8:00 a.m.

While emergency services are closed, primary health care (i.e. family practice clinic appointments) will still be available. To make an appointment for the family practice clinic (including evening virtual appointments), outpatient laboratory services and ambulatory treatment services, individuals may call 709-873-2330. Additional appointments have been added at the family practice clinic for the coming week to meet the increased demand.

Patients requiring emergency services during the closures should call 911 or proceed to the Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre or the Dr. S. Beckley Clinic in Grand Bank if they feel they have a serious or urgent medical problem.

If you are unsure whether you or a loved one should go to the Emergency Department or if you are experiencing a mental health crisis, please call the NL Health Line at 811 to speak with a registered nurse 24 hours, seven days a week. The HealthLine also has a nurse practitioner (NP) virtual care service that can prevent unnecessary emergency room visits for non-emergent issues. Appointments with NPs over the phone or by video are available every day from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., including weekends. Please note that appointments to see the 811 NP can usually be accommodated within three days.

Eastern Health thanks the public and employees for their cooperation and apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause.
