Temporary Closure of Emergency Services at U.S. Memorial Health Centre

March 24, 2023 – St. John’s, NL: Eastern Health advises the public that emergency services at U.S. Memorial Health Centre in St. Lawrence will be temporarily closed due to human resource challenges. The temporary closure will take place from:

 Monday, March 27, 2023 at 8:00 a.m. to Monday, April 3, 2023 at 8:00 a.m.

For information on services while the emergency department is closed (such as primary health care/family practice clinic, outpatient laboratory services and ambulatory treatment services), individuals may call 709-873-2330.

Patients requiring emergency services during the closures should call 911 or proceed to the Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre or the Dr. S. Beckley Clinic in Grand Bank if they feel they have a serious or urgent medical problem. If you are unsure whether you or a loved one should go to the Emergency Department or if you are experiencing a mental health crisis, please call the NL HealthLine at 811 to speak with a registered nurse 24 hours, seven days a week. The HealthLine also has a nurse practitioner (NP) virtual care service that can prevent unnecessary emergency room visits for non-emergent issues. Appointments with NPs over the phone or by video are available every day from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., including weekends. Please note that appointments to see the 811 NP can usually be accommodated within three days.

Appointments for laboratory and medical imaging services at USM are on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. The number of laboratory appointments per day have increased to ensure residents continue to have appropriate access to these services.
