Eastern Health Accepting Scholarship Applications

 August 24, 2021 – St. John’s, NL:  Eastern Health is now accepting applications for scholarships available to staff and dependents of staff within Eastern Health, and other eligible post-secondary students.

“At Eastern Health, we have a highly skilled and committed workforce dedicated to patient care. We are committed to supporting our workforce through career development and opportunities for growth and development,” said David Diamond, President and CEO, Eastern Health. “As a health-care organization, we also understand the importance of quality care and continuous improvement, and each year are pleased to collaborate with our partners to offer scholarship opportunities to support our health-care system.”

More than 35 scholarships, ranging from $500 to $6,500, are available, as follows:

  • 20 scholarships for staff;
  • 14 scholarships for dependents of staff; and
  • two Quality Healthcare Scholarships for eligible post-secondary students.

Scholarships are provided by Eastern Health and by groups and/or organizations that support Eastern Health, including the Health Care Foundation, the Janeway Children’s Health and Rehabilitation Centre Auxiliary, St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital Auxiliary, the General Hospital Sports and Social Club and the Sister Mary Fabian Hennebury Scholarship Fund.

“Our employees are the heart of our organization and the greatest resource we provide to the public,” said Collette Smith, Eastern Health Vice President, Clinical Services and Human Resources. “Working life in health care is constantly evolving, so it is important that staff continue to learn and develop. These scholarship opportunities contribute to our employees’ growth, which is key to the success of our organization.”

In 2020, Eastern Health awarded a total of $37,500 in scholarships to 18 employees, 15 dependents of staff and one Quality Healthcare award recipient.

Eastern Health scholarships are awarded upon merit. Eastern Health’s Scholarship Review Team assesses all applications and selects the scholarship winners based on established criteria.

Completed applications for 2021 must be received by 5:00 p.m., October 20, 2021. Full eligibility details, including application forms, can be obtained from the Eastern Health’s website at:
