COVID-19 Vaccination Clinics Open to Children 6 months to 5 Years of Age

August 1, 2022 – St. John’s, NL:  Eastern Health would like to advise the public that COVID-19 vaccination for children between 6 months to 5 years of age at clinics are now available throughout the region. Children in this age group will receive the Moderna Spikevax vaccine which has been authorized by Health Canada for children ages 6 months to 5 years.

Individuals may book an appointment at a clinic by visiting www.gov.nl.ca/covid-19/vaccine/gettheshot/ or by calling 1-833-951-3904 (toll-free). When booking online, please select 6 Months to under 5 Years – PEDIATRIC COVID-19 Immunization Appointment before proceeding to book an appointment. Please note that appointment availability will vary across the region initially; however, appointments will continue to be regularly added to the online booking system and individuals are advised to continue to check availability. As well, this week Eastern Health will be opening a second vaccine clinic in the metro region at Mount Pearl Square, 760 Topsail Road.

It is important to note that when booking a vaccine for a child who is between 6 months and 5 years of age, that the National Advisory Council on Immunization (NACI) recommends that the vaccine must be given 14 days before or after the date of receiving another vaccine.

The public is reminded that they should not schedule an appointment for a vaccine if they are a close contact of a case and are isolating or if they are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19. If they are experiencing symptoms, they should complete a COVID-19 Assessment by visiting https://covidassessment.nlchi.nl.ca/.

Significant efforts have been made to ensure that public health measures are in place for the protection of those receiving their vaccines as well as for health-care staff. Individuals are required to self-screen for COVID-19 symptoms at the entrance, be required to wear a mask, and observe good infection prevention and control practices.
