March 27, 2023 – St. John’s, NL: Eastern Health advises the public of temporary closures of emergency services at the Bonavista Peninsula Health Centre due to human resource challenges. The temporary closures are as follows:
Friday, March 31, 2023 at 8:00 a.m. to Saturday, April 1, 2023 at 8:00 a.m.
Sunday, April 2, 2023 at 8:00 a.m. to Monday, April 3, 2023 at 8:00 a.m.
Eastern Health advises the public that in-person and telephone primary health-care appointments will be available at the Bonavista Peninsula Health Centre from Monday, March 20, 2023 to Friday, March 31, 2023, for patients with or without a family doctor. Primary health-care appointments would be the best option for individuals who are unwell but do not need to be seen within 24-hours, such as a fever, sinus infection, and medication refills. To book an appointment, please call 709-468-7881. The recruitment of two additional physicians for the Bonavista Peninsula Health Centre will assist to increase available appointment times in the near future.
Patients with a medical emergency who require an ambulance should call 911. Those who feel they have a serious or urgent medical problem should proceed to the nearest open emergency department at Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital in Clarenville.If you are unsure whether you or a loved one should go to the Emergency Department or you are experiencing a mental health crisis, please call the NL HealthLine at 811 to speak with a registered nurse 24 hours, seven days a week. The HealthLine also has a nurse practitioner (NP) virtual care service that can prevent unnecessary emergency room visits for non-emergent issues. Appointments with NPs over the phone or by video are available every day from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., including weekends. Please note that appointments to see the 811 NP can usually be accommodated within three days.
