October 8, 2021 – St. John’s, NL: Eastern Health’s Women’s Health Clinic will hold its annual Women’s Health Day on Saturday, October 23, 2021 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Health Sciences Centre. Pap tests will be offered by female staff and are available by calling (709) 777-3018 or (709) 777-7460.
A Pap test is a simple test that can help prevent cancer of the cervix. If you have a cervix and are sexually active, you should start pap testing at age 21.
Approximately one in 10 individuals may have an abnormal result. If your Pap test is abnormal, it does not mean you have cancer, but it is important to see your health care provider for follow-up.
Patients should make every effort to keep all follow-up appointments as Pap testing can find cell changes before cancer develops, when treatments are available and most likely to be successful.
