Eastern Health Provides Update on Outpatient Laboratory Services

January 7, 2022 – St. John’s, NL: Eastern Health advises the public of the continuation of temporary changes to outpatient laboratory services (e.g. blood collection) across the region for January 10-14, 2022. These changes will enable resources to be redeployed to assist with the COVID-19 pandemic response.

  • All non-urgent appointments have been cancelled.
  • Urgent/emergent laboratory testing and services will continue.
  • Eastern Health’s outpatient blood collection sites are restricted to urgent blood collection only. This includes blood testing for patients requiring: INRs (international normalized ratios), therapeutic drug-level monitoring testing and, for cancer care patients, monitoring of cancer clinic profiles and other required cancer-related testing.

Walk-in COVID-19 Booster Clinics for those 50 Plus in St. John’s

January 5, 2022 – St. John’s, NL: Eastern Health advises that there will be a walk-in COVID-19 Booster Clinic tomorrow, Thursday, January 6, 2022, from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Waterford Valley High School in St. John’s, NL.

These clinics are for those 50 years of age and older, and will offer the Moderna vaccine. Health-care workers (including personal care home, community care home and assisted living staff, and home support workers), first responders, teachers, and daycare operators/staff aged 30 years and older can also attend this clinic. Please note that individuals must meet the 22-week requirement between the second dose and the booster dose. Eastern Health Expands Visitor Restrictions

December 30, 2021 – St. John’s, NL: Eastern Health advises the public that temporary expanded visitor restrictions are now in place at facilities and sites across the region, as per updated provincial guidelines. Effective immediately, all in-person visits to inpatients in a hospital setting and residents of long-term care homes, personal care homes, community care homes and assisted living facilities are suspended until further notice and the general public are asked not to visit any patients or residents during this time. Visitor Restrictions in Place on Unit at Caribou Memorial Veterans Pavilion

December 26, 2021 – St. John’s, NL:  Eastern Health advises the public that visitation is temporarily suspended on unit 2 South at Caribou Memorial Veterans Pavilion.

Occupational Health has conducted contact tracing for all employees. All staff have been working in full protective personal equipment and there have been no staffing restrictions. Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) has advised there is no known impact to residents at this time. All residents on the unit have been put on isolation and have been tested. (more…)

November 6, 2021 – St. John’s, NL: Eastern Health advises that it is proceeding with radiation therapy treatments for cancer patients starting this evening, Saturday, November 6, 2021, following confirmation from the Newfoundland and Labrador Centre for Health Information (NLCHI) that the IT system for radiation oncology is now functional. October 30, 2021 – St. John’s, NL: Eastern Health advises the public of a province-wide IT outage affecting some of its operational, clinical and administrative systems. Eastern Health is working with the Newfoundland and Labrador Centre of Health Information (NLCHI), who is assessing and working to resolve the situation in collaboration with the Department of Health and Community Services and other regional health authorities.

Eastern Health Offering Mobile COVID-19 Vaccine Clinic in Conception Bay North

October 27, 2021 – St. John’s, NL: Eastern Health advises that it will be offering a mobile COVID-19 Vaccine Clinic for residents living in Conception Bay North on Thursday and Friday, October 28 and 29, 2021. Eastern Health Offers Influenza Vaccinations for Clients Requiring Home Visit

October 27, 2021 – St. John’s, NL: Eastern Health advises that beginning Monday, November 1, 2021, home visits by community health nurses are available for very frail or homebound individuals who cannot travel to a public flu clinic or visit a pharmacist or doctor to get their flu shot. (more…)
