Eastern Health Announces COVID-19 Vaccination Boosters Now Available for Eligible Individuals

May 3, 2022 – St. John’s, NL: Eastern Health advises that appointments are now available for individuals who are eligible for COVID-19 second vaccination boosters. The second booster dose should be administered at a minimum of 20 weeks after the first booster dose was administered. Those eligible for the second booster are:

  • Adults 70 years of age and over;
  • All residents living in long-term care or other senior congregate living facilities; and
  • Individuals 18 years of age and older that identify as Indigenous or live in remote/isolated communities.

April 4, 2022 – St. John’s, NL: Eastern Health advises that it is extending its online appointment-based system for outpatient blood collection to include St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital in St. John’s. March 14, 2022 – St. John’s, NL: Eastern Health advises the public of updates to the COVID-19 screening process at points of entry to health-care facilities and hospitals across the region, in line with provincial guidelines. Effective March 14, 2022, visitors/support persons are directed to self-screen for COVID-19 and verbal screening by a staff member at facility entrances will be discontinued. Patients, residents and clients will continue to be screened at registration and should proceed directly to registration upon arrival at the health-care facility. Eastern Health Modifies Approach to COVID-19 Vaccine Clinics in St. John’s

March 14, 2022 – St. John’s, NL: Eastern Health advises that the COVID-19 vaccine clinic in St. John’s will be relocating from the Village Mall to 50 Mundy Pond Road effective March 21, 2022. Eastern Health Announces Changes in Operating Hours for COVID-19 Clinics at Village Mall

February 25, 2022 – St. John’s, NL: Eastern Health advises of new operating hours for the COVID-19 appointment-based and walk-in clinics at the Village Mall based on current demand. Starting this weekend, the clinics will remain open every second Saturday for first and second doses for individuals 12 years and older, booster doses for anyone 18 years of age and older and pediatric doses. The clinic at the Village Mall will be closed tomorrow and reopen on Monday, February 28, 2022. Individuals who had appointments scheduled for tomorrow will need to rebook. The new, fully digital X-ray machine will produce higher quality medical images to support more accurate diagnoses and better outcomes for patients. January 28, 2022 – St. John’s, NL: Eastern Health advises the public of updates to temporary visitor restrictions at facilities and sites across the region, as per provincial guidelines. All health-care facilities remain closed for general visitation with the exception of one support person for each resident/patient, including inpatients in a hospital setting and residents of long-term care homes, personal care homes, community care homes and assisted living facilities. The general public are reminded not to visit any patients or residents during this time unless they are the designated support person for the patient/resident they are visiting. Eastern Health Offering COVID-19 Vaccine Walk-in Clinics at the Village Mall

January 24, 2022 – St. John’s, NL: Eastern Health advises that starting today, Monday, January 24, 2022, the Village Mall in St. John’s will be a COVID-19 walk in clinic for first and second doses for individuals 12 years and older as well as for booster doses for anyone 18 years of age and older. These walk-in clinics will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Mondays to Saturdays. Appointments are not required. Anyone who previously booked an appointment at the Village Mall should proceed as scheduled to their appointment. Eastern Health Provides Update on Outpatient Laboratory Services

January 7, 2022 – St. John’s, NL: Eastern Health advises the public of the continuation of temporary changes to outpatient laboratory services (e.g. blood collection) across the region for January 10-14, 2022. These changes will enable resources to be redeployed to assist with the COVID-19 pandemic response.

  • All non-urgent appointments have been cancelled.
  • Urgent/emergent laboratory testing and services will continue.
  • Eastern Health’s outpatient blood collection sites are restricted to urgent blood collection only. This includes blood testing for patients requiring: INRs (international normalized ratios), therapeutic drug-level monitoring testing and, for cancer care patients, monitoring of cancer clinic profiles and other required cancer-related testing.

Walk-in COVID-19 Booster Clinics for those 50 Plus in St. John’s

January 5, 2022 – St. John’s, NL: Eastern Health advises that there will be a walk-in COVID-19 Booster Clinic tomorrow, Thursday, January 6, 2022, from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Waterford Valley High School in St. John’s, NL.

These clinics are for those 50 years of age and older, and will offer the Moderna vaccine. Health-care workers (including personal care home, community care home and assisted living staff, and home support workers), first responders, teachers, and daycare operators/staff aged 30 years and older can also attend this clinic. Please note that individuals must meet the 22-week requirement between the second dose and the booster dose.
