Waterford Hospital Outpatient Blood Collection Appointments Cancelled Today

November 29, 2022 – St. John’s, NL:  Eastern Health advises that non-urgent outpatient blood collection appointments at the Waterford Hospital only, are cancelled today (November 29, 2022) due to current human resource challenges. Patients whose appointments are cancelled are asked to re-book through the online appointment booking system.

Patients requiring urgent, INR or treatment-dependent blood work, should proceed to St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital blood collection.

Eastern Health apologizes for any inconvenience this service cancellation may cause.

Walk-in COVID-19 Booster Clinics for those 50 Plus in St. John’s

January 5, 2022 – St. John’s, NL: Eastern Health advises that there will be a walk-in COVID-19 Booster Clinic tomorrow, Thursday, January 6, 2022, from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Waterford Valley High School in St. John’s, NL.

These clinics are for those 50 years of age and older, and will offer the Moderna vaccine. Health-care workers (including personal care home, community care home and assisted living staff, and home support workers), first responders, teachers, and daycare operators/staff aged 30 years and older can also attend this clinic. Please note that individuals must meet the 22-week requirement between the second dose and the booster dose. December 26, 2021 – St. John’s, NL:  Eastern Health advises the public that visitation is temporarily suspended on unit 2 South at Caribou Memorial Veterans Pavilion.

Occupational Health has conducted contact tracing for all employees. All staff have been working in full protective personal equipment and there have been no staffing restrictions. Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) has advised there is no known impact to residents at this time. All residents on the unit have been put on isolation and have been tested. March 7, 2023 – St. John’s, NL: The Provincial Government continues to take meaningful action to reimagine health care in Newfoundland and Labrador based on recommendations of Health Accord NL. Central to the approach is creating a more effective and efficient system that is reflective of the current environment and focused on improved service delivery and health outcomes.

With this in mind, Eastern Health has added urgent care to the Dr. William H. Newhook Community Health Centre in Whitbourne, in addition to its current status as a Primary Care Centre. This combined clinic will provide patients with primary health care, as well as urgent/same-day care for non-life-threatening injuries and illnesses.   • Landline: If you have a landline, please call the Dr. Walter Templeman Health Care Centre at 709-488-2761 for an ambulance.

Update to Temporary Closures of Emergency Services at Dr. Walter Templeman Health Care Centre

March 31, 2023 – St. John’s, NL: Eastern Health advises the public of an update to temporary closures of emergency services at the Dr. Walter Templeman Health Care Centre on Bell Island. The temporary closures will now take place on:

Thursday, March 30, 2023 at 8:00 p.m. to Saturday, April 1, 2023 at 8:00 a.m.

Saturday, April 1, 2023 at 8:00 p.m. to Monday, April 3, 2023 at 8:00 a.m.

Patients with a medical emergency who require an ambulance should call 911. If you are experiencing a mental health crisis, please call the NL HealthLine at 811. Those who feel they have a serious or urgent medical problem should proceed to their nearest emergency department. Update to Temporary Changes to Carbonear General Hospital Emergency Department Entrance

April 3, 2023 – St. John’s, NL: Newfoundland and Labrador Health Services advises the public of continued temporary changes to the emergency department entrance at the Carbonear General Hospital due to construction work. This work is currently scheduled to continue to take place until Tuesday, April 4, 2023, at approximately 8:00 a.m. During this time, the public is advised to use the second floor Staff Entrance, Door #5 to access the emergency department; this entrance is located in the same area and is to the left of the emergency room doors. Update on Eastern Health Services During Adverse Weather

February 15, 2023 – St. John’s, NL: Eastern Health advises the public of the following update to its services today due to adverse weather conditions:

  • Breastfeeding support groups are cancelled at the following locations:
    • Goulds Family Resource Centre (2:00 – 3:30 p.m.)
    • Bay Bulls Community Health Office (1:00 – 2:30 p.m.)
      These groups will resume as scheduled next week. Please reach out to your Public Health nurse directly, if needed.
  • The breastfeeding support group at Heart’s Delight Town Hall (1:30 – 2:30 p.m.) is proceeding.
  • The community walk-in clinic, located at 50 Mundy Pond Rd, St. John’s, will reopen at 12:00 p.m.
  • The blood collection booking office/phone line is closed today and will reopen tomorrow. Appointments can also be made online at https://www.easternhealth.ca/find-health-care/blood-collection/. Blood collection sites are open and appointments are proceeding.

Update on COVID-19 Screening and Continued COVID-19 Protocols at Health-care Facilities

March 14, 2022 – St. John’s, NL: Eastern Health advises the public of updates to the COVID-19 screening process at points of entry to health-care facilities and hospitals across the region, in line with provincial guidelines. Effective March 14, 2022, visitors/support persons are directed to self-screen for COVID-19 and verbal screening by a staff member at facility entrances will be discontinued. Patients, residents and clients will continue to be screened at registration and should proceed directly to registration upon arrival at the health-care facility. March 31, 2023 – St. John’s, NL: Eastern Health advises the public of temporary virtual emergency services at the Bonavista Peninsula Health Centre due to human resource challenges. During this time, the emergency department will be staffed by a nurse practitioner and a respiratory therapist, supported by a physician who will be available virtually. The temporary change will take place from:

Temporary Schedule for Emergency Services at U.S. Memorial Health Centre

November 4, 2022 – St. John’s, NL: Eastern Health advises the public that U.S. Memorial Health Centre in St. Lawrence has implemented a four-week temporary schedule for emergency services. This schedule allows U.S. Memorial Health Centre to maximize available human resources in order to continue to offer both emergency services and appointment-based physician clinics.

Effective November 7 to December 4, 2022:

Emergency services will be CLOSED on Tuesday and Thursday starting at 8:00 a.m. for 24 hours (8:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. the following day);

Emergency services will remain OPEN on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday starting at 8:00 a.m. for 24 hours (8:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. the following day).

During emergency service closures, appointments for primary health-care visits will continue. Family practice clinics and outpatient laboratory services, such as blood collection and X-ray, are available by appointment at the U.S. Memorial Health Centre. November 10, 2022 – St. John’s, NL: Eastern Health advises the public that due to unanticipated human resource challenges at U.S. Memorial Health Centre in St. Lawrence, the previous schedule for emergency services is no longer in effect. The updated temporary schedule is as follows:
